As an educator or parent, have you ever found yourself in a situation in which you were working with a person with disabilities and the material or curricula you were using was not accessible? If so, you are not alone. Understanding the disability type and the necessary adaptations or accommodations for your students are only part of creating a successful outcome. Another component involves designing fun activities to match the content while engaging the learner. Integrating into the curriculum resource(s), universal design, and universal instructional design promotes accessibility in the learning arena. Universal design is “a framework for integrating flexible, usable, and accessible teaching and learning technologies with inquiry- and standards-based” science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) curricula.
